Datacentre Location
Based south of Birmingham, close to the M42,
M40, M1, M5, Birmingham International Airport
and train stations with direct connections to
London and Manchester, there are few better
connected hosting locations outside the London
Docklands area. The facility lies on 1.8 acre
site, in a custom designed premises built for
UKS in 1997. Within there are two data floors
and office areas for everything from our
accounts department to our support team and
network operations centre (NOC).
Security
All the security precautions customers expect to
see at a hosting facility are in place. Physical
site access control, CCTV and internal proximity
locking systems combine with a documented
access control procedures to protect customer
equipment. This ensures that should an
installation need to be included within a security
certification programme, such as BS7799, the
facility has the necessary prerequisites.
Environmental Monitoring and Cooling
The data floor environment is monitored and
maintained by redundant cooling circuits, and
power supplied to the customer racks is backed
up via a combination of battery based UPS units
and diesel generators with over 86 hours of fuel
maintained on-site.
Quality Connectivity
UKS manages a network spanning from the
Studley hosting facility down to multiple points in
London. With data travelling over multiple
telecoms carriers, diversely routed, terminating
in multiple locations, customers can be assured
of the highest level of service.
Network services include Internet IP, Ethernet
private line into other geographic locations, and
full or partial BGP based transit. All delivered
over a resilient MPLS backbone.
Geographic Diversity
Being around 100 miles due north of London, but
maintaining good transport links, the UKS facility
can be considered for geographic diversity and
disaster recovery requirements.
Customers needing to have a second site for
business continuity insurances, or to meet
customer contractual requirements, can utilise a
combination of services to make a sensible
solution. Combining rack space, Internet IP for
the public facing elements, and the Ethernet
private line for back-end replication, every
element is covered. We work with London
based hosting providers to enable customers to
take a one stop solution. |
